Twitter has shut down some 7,340 accounts in Turkey, discussing that they were “state-linked information operations.”
“We’re disclosing new state-linked information operations to our public archive — the only one of its kind in the industry. Originating from the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Russia, and Turkey, all associated accounts and content have been removed,” the social media company said in a tweet.
Medyascope, a Turkish news website, reported the takedown, with journalist Ruşen Çakır saying that such “troll” accounts have been a burden for journalists.
