The son of the Somali leader, Mohammed Hassan Shekh Mohamud, left the country after hitting and killing a motorcycle courier, Yunus Emre Göçer, in traffic in Istanbul.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has issued an arrest warrant for Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s son, Mohammed Hassan Shekh Mohamud, after motorcycle courier Yunus Emre Göçer, whom he hit in traffic, died on December 7th.

The Prosecutor’s Office found out on December 8th that the Somali President’s son had left the country on December 2nd.

Left the country

The prosecutor’s office started an investigation on November 30 after Mohamud hit the courier. In the initial accident report, the motorcycle driver was found at fault, and no fault was attributed to the Somalian leader’s son.

Mohamud’s statement was taken on the same day, and he was released on the grounds of causing an injury by negligence.

After Göçer died in the hospital, the investigation was turned into a “homicide by negligence.”

Forensic medicine traffic specialisation branch examined the file and found Mohamud at fault and found no fault on Göçer’s part.

“The law enforcement officers were instructed to apprehend the suspect, but it was determined that the suspect left Turkey on December 2, 2023. Therefore, an arrest warrant was issued for him on December 8, 2023, and the file was sent to the forensic medicine traffic specialisation branch to resolve the contradictions between the determinations in the accident investigation report and the traffic expert report, and it is submitted to the information of the public that the investigation is carried out meticulously,” the statement from the prosecutor’s office read.
