Russia-Ukraine and Europe-Iran talks will be held in İstanbul this week

by YetkinReport / 22 July 2025, Tuesday / Published in Politics

The Russia-Ukraine ceasefire talks and the Europe-Iran nuclear talks will take place in İstanbul, again. During the first round of Iran-E3 talks, Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan (L) spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi.

The Ukraine-Russia ceasefire and Iran-Europe nuclear talks are being hosted by Türkiye this week in Istanbul, with a two-day interval between them.
The Ukrainian and Russian delegations will hold their third round of talks this year on Wednesday, July 23, in İstanbul. The discussions will focus on ceasefire conditions, but the likelihood of reaching an agreement is low due to the starkly opposing stances of the two sides. Although the parties agreed in early June on the exchange of the bodies of those killed in the war and prisoner swaps, the implementation has not been completed.
Meanwhile, on July 16, U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Russia with new sanctions if a ceasefire is not reached within 50 days and announced plans to send new weapons to Ukraine. This deadline is roughly around the end of August.

Iran-Europe talks in İstanbul

Talks on Iran’s nuclear program between Iran and the E3 Group (the United Kingdom, France, and Germany) will take place on Friday, July 25, in İstanbul. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a preparatory phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on July 21.
The diplomats of Iran and the European countries held their first meeting during the Organization of Islamic Cooperation meetings in Istanbul on June 21; this will be the second round.
Trump, on the other hand, threatened Tehran with renewed strikes if no agreement is reached. The U.S., at Israel’s request, bombed Iran’s underground nuclear facilities on June 22 following clashes triggered by Israel’s attack on Iran and Iran’s response.
